INCLUDING OLDER KIDS IN A BAINBRIDGE ISLAND IN HOME NEWBORN SESSION

The short answer is Hurray! Of course! Absolutely! Let’s capture that lovefest! But first let’s go over concerns you may have when booking a Newborn Session.

Will I have to take my family to your studio for our session?

Nope! Studio imagery can be beautiful, but I prefer to capture life in the place you call home. What helps relax older kids, from toddlerhood and on, is being in their own environment on the day of your session. I’ll arrive sometime in the morning, so there’s no need to rush through breakfast and dress your kids to get out the door at a certain time. That’s too much stress for new parents! You’ve just welcomed a new baby into your life and taking it easy is the priority.

How can I be sure my older one(s) won’t get too excited or have a meltdown and disrupt the session?

Redirection goes a long way when it comes to unpredictable behavior. Depending on your child’s age, we’ll ask them to be a helper. Little kids love to help! Questions like, “Can you find the baby’s favorite toy?” and “Can you help Mommy wrap the baby in this special blankie?” work well to get them focused on a task and feel included. Making sure all the kids in your family know that they’re just as important as the baby makes all the difference.

If anyone is feeling a little too wound up, we simply take a break. Some time to run around outdoors, play-doh, building with blocks, or playing dress-up. This helps to release some of that wonderful energy and makes beautiful photos of what your life is like right now.

When you hire a professional photographer you shouldn’t need to worry about the details. All you have to do is open the door when I arrive!
